On the 23rd of April 2019, I was lucky enough to get married to this smart, beautiful and wonderful girl. As I boarded that one-way flight in 2015 I had no idea that I would meet someone special, fall head over heels in love, and later get married. Fairytale of Chongqing

In the West, we’ve all heard of Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong, but I doubt most have heard of the enigmatic metropolis that is Chongqing. (Chongqing - the megalopolis) Powering its way through this megalopolis is the famous Yangtze River (Chángjiāng 长江 ) and that’s not the only famous thing here. Chongqing is home to mouth-numbing foods; such as the local culinary speciality hot pot and xiǎomiàn ( 小面 ), epic city-scape views and Cíqìkǒu ( 磁器口 ) – a 1000 -year old town right in the heart of one this ever-growing modern and alluring city. Why I came to China

A question that I often get asked from students, friends and strangers alike is; “Why did you come to China?” Where to even start? The reason why I moved myself across eight time zones to a completely different continent and hemisphere is a stewing pot of different feelings and circumstances. Casting my mind back to my final, yet terrible, year at university in 2014 (was that really four years ago?) I’d managed to successfully get a spot on our university’s cultural exchange programme to Sichuan University, right here in Chengdu. I was quite lucky as the group I travelled with took the opportunity to maximise the trip and planned to see other places in the Middle Kingdom. As I boarded, what was at that time, the longest flight of my life but also the furthest I’d travelled away from home; excitement didn’t come close to describing how I felt.
